ArcelorMittal Cleveland Works Railway Inc. has immediate openings for Railroad Employees.

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must have a minimum of a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of experience working as a conductor, having obtained a Conductor's Certificate per CFR title 49 part 242.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver's license.
  • Candidates must have a proven safety record, as well as, skill and proficiency in the areas of switching and marshaling freight cars, train movements, interfacing with customers, and working within a team-oriented environment.
  • Candidates must possess the knowledge necessary to perform switching activities in a safe and efficient manner.

Preferred Requirements
Ideal candidates will have 5 years of experience working as a conductor with a valid Conductor's Certificate per CFR title 49 part 242.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be highly motivated and willing to work in a self-directed team environment with minimal supervision and direction.

Railroad employees are subjected to all weather conditions, including extreme heat conditions within a steel plant environment. Rail movements interface with blast furnaces and include moving hot metal bottles and cast steel slabs.

Successful candidates must be willing to work under these conditions and work rotating shifts including weekends/holidays, while performing at all hours of the day or night.

Railroad employees will: 1) apply/remove handbrakes on freight equipment, 2) operate switch stands, 3) mount and dismount moving and standing equipment from appropriate ladders, grabirons and sillsteps of railroad equipment, 4) use two-way hand-held radios with remote microphone and brakeman's lantern, 5) wear the necessary safety equipment including but not limited to hardhats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, 6) process work orders, customer issues, various freight car types, hazardous material handling, distinguish color signals aspects and be familiar with Hours of Service regulations for Railroad Employees, Railroad Communications, and Railroad Operating Practices. Safe movement of the locomotives and freight cars will be dependent upon the successful candidate's knowledge and judgment.

Candidates must successfully pass a drug screen and background check and must pass a physical exam prior to starting employment, including but not limited to the FRA urine drug screen.
