Highway Auxiliary Maintenance Patrol

The Iowa County Highway Department is seeking applicants for an Auxiliary Maintenance Patrol. Job duties may include general laborer tasks related to routing, cleaning, sweeping, and application of hot tar products associated with rout-and-seal and over-band crack filling operations; placing, shaping, and grading of gravel products for shoulders and roadways; sweeping, spreading of road oils, and placement of gravel products for seal-coating operations; pulverization, milling, grinding, placing, grading, and shouldering for mainline paving projects; rut filling, crown re-establishment, spot wedging, and similar minor asphalt pavement repairs; weed and brush control; winging, application of materials, and plowing of snow; mowing; and traffic control including general flagging operations. Applicant requirements: minimum 18 years of age, high school diploma/GED, and valid Commercial Drivers License with classes A,B,C, and D, with no air brake restrictions; preference for candidates with (N) tanker endorsements. Candidates must have recently demonstrated proficiency with a wide variety of equipment and tools and an understanding of the machinery, methods, and operations required for road maintenance and construction activities as well as hands-on experience with the daily care, maintenance, and operation of equipment and trucks, and capability to operate automated brooms, various hand and mechanical tools, mowers, plows, road maintenance and construction equipment.
