IOWA NORTHERN RAILWAY UTILITY MECHANIC
Iowa Northern Railway has two immediate openings for second shift Utility Mechanic in Waterloo, Iowa.
This position is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repair activities on all types of freight and passenger cars, locomotive inspections, and servicing maintenance. Other duties may include daily locomotive servicing, flat car repairs and preparations for tractor loading, painting, and stenciling, rerailing cars and locomotives by use of blocking, cables and rerail equipment, coupling air hoses and testing air brakes in compliance with 49CFR 215.11. Certification of car inspectors and 49CFR 238.109 training, qualification, and designation program for passenger car inspectors. This position is also responsible for preparing necessary paperwork associated with car repairs.
Applicant must be able to work on and around heavy and moving machinery (constant 67% - 100%). Bend, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods. Frequent (34-66%) eye-hand coordination as well as ability to grasp, hold, turn, and pull. Performing heavy work, lifting/carrying of up to 50 pounds, climbing, balancing skills, stooping, squatting, kneeling and overhead work. Able to perform work on uneven surfaces; frequently climbing ladders, maneuver on/off equipment and work from various heights including on top of a locomotive. Occasional (up to 33%) lift and carry 100 pounds with or without assistance. Distant visual acuity at least 20/40 in each eye with or without glasses. Contact lenses are not acceptable under company safety standards except for office work. An average hearing threshold (in the better ear) of 40 decibels at 500 Hz., 1000 Hz., and 2000 Hs., aided or unaided.
This will be a full-time hourly position and includes a comprehensive benefit package. High school graduate or equivalent required. Must have a valid driver’s license with no more than 3 violations in the last 3 years and no major violations (i.e. reckless operations or D.U.I.’s). Pre-employment background check and drug screen required.
