The District was incorporated by the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut on March 25, 1879, by an “Act Incorporating the Mystic Fire District in the Towns of Groton and Stonington”. Mystic Fire District is a municipality governed by an elected Fire District Board of Directors who set a mill rate to levy a fire district tax. The Mystic Fire Department is a combination career/volunteer department integral to the District, shall be under its jurisdiction and shall be duly organized under proper authority and discipline, in such a manner that it may be readily mobilized to provide firefighting, rescue, search, R-1 medical response service, emergency assistance and other such services in keeping with this purpose, when called upon to do so. The Firefighter/EMT position is an integral part of a growing Mystic Fire Department, both during emergencies and during periods of readiness. The Firefighter/EMT position works under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief / Fire Marshal or designee as well as under the administrative supervision of the Mystic Fire District Executive Committee. The Firefighter/EMT must develop and maintain good working relationships with both the volunteer workforce and career personnel.
Annual Salary: $52,000 - $58,000, commensurate with experience and education

Education: • High school diploma or state equivalency diploma (GED). • State of Connecticut certified Firefighter I (IFSAC or Pro Board). • State of Connecticut certified Hazardous Materials Operational. • Valid CDL or Connecticut Driver’s License with Q endorsement. • Current State of Connecticut Certified EMT-Basic or NREMT-Basic.
Skill and Experience: • Ability to interact well with the public and the paid and volunteer staff of the Mystic Fire District. • Must have good written and oral communication skills. • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with a minimum of supervision. • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with reasonable accommodations. • Physical ability, capability, and agility to perform critical firefighting requirements. • Mechanical ability to perform routine equipment and apparatus maintenance. • Ability to maintain accurate records.
Work Hours & Schedule: The normal work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday. The selected candidate may be required to respond to emergency calls after hours as appropriate and to attend evening training sessions periodically as required by the Fire Chief or designee. This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime.
